University of Illinois – Richard T. Ubben Basketball Complex

Champaign, IL

VIEW ALL PROJECTS

Inaugurated in 1998, the Richard T. Ubben Basketball Complex underwent a transformative overhaul that revitalized its appearance and expanded its structural footprint twofold. These enhancements were meticulously crafted to benefit both the men's and women's basketball programs, representing a comprehensive upgrade across various facets of the facility.

The noteworthy improvements encompass the addition of extra court space, the integration of state-of-the-art sports medicine facilities, the creation of an enriched strength and conditioning area, the establishment of purpose-built study spaces, the expansion of staff offices, and the introduction of contemporary student-athlete amenities within brand-new locker rooms and team areas.

The renovation, a monumental undertaking, resulted in the incorporation of approximately 40,000 additional square feet seamlessly into the existing Ubben Basketball Complex's structure. Concurrently, more than 40,000 square feet of pre-existing space underwent meticulous remodeling. The project also boasts a striking atrium lobby space and dedicated areas to host recruits and intimate gatherings.

Furthermore, the renovation addressed the athletic programs' specific needs. Two new half-courts were integrated into the existing gymnasium space for the women's and men's programs, providing additional training space without disrupting full-court activities.

One of the most striking features of the project is the awe-inspiring glass-enclosed addition for strength and conditioning, providing a stunning visual centerpiece. The locker rooms and player lounges have been expanded to triple their original size, offering unparalleled comfort and convenience. The sports medicine area has been dramatically expanded and now includes cutting-edge hydrotherapy and sports science spaces, ensuring the holistic well-being of the athletes.
