In early 2018, Moody Nolan commissioned Counsilman-Hunsaker to perform a feasibility study analysis for the planning, design and operations for a new Community Recreation Center which would include indoor aquatics. Through this process, Counsilman-Hunsaker was contracted to identify and assess the need for aquatics and develop options for consideration that meet the aquatic needs of Violet Township. During this time, multiple community meetings were held. Focus Groups in specific interest areas were formed and input was provided. A Program Steering Committee was formed to review and recommend a direction from all of the Focus Groups and lastly, a separate Finance Committee thoroughly explored and recommended a financing option for construction and operation of the new facility.
This study will provide the leadership of Violet Township with the information needed to make an informed decision about moving forward with the construction and operation of a new Community Recreation Center which will service the recreational, instructional, fitness and competitive aquatic needs of its residents.
Violet Township has placed a property tax levy on the May 2019 ballot to fund the initial capital cost, the continuing operational cost appropriation and an annual capital replacement fund.
