Eanes ISD Athletics Center

Austin, TX

VIEW ALL PROJECTS

In 2020, Counsilman-Hunsaker collaborated with the leadership committee of Eanes ISD to create a new aquatic center. The process began with a revenue and expense analysis aimed at providing vital information needed to make an educated decision on how to best operate the facility. The study projected operational expenses and examined various possible revenue streams, from in-house aquatic programs to partnerships with local swim clubs.

Eanes ISD celebrated the opening of its newly constructed 20,000 sq. ft. aquatics center in March 2022, located at its existing Westlake High School campus. The facility was built with funds from the district’s 2019 bond program, finalizing a decades-long push for a school district pool.
The aquatic center was one of many new additions to Eanes ISD which also include a new gymnasium and a robotics laboratory and workshop. These renovations will provide competition and practice venues to support swimmers and wrestlers as well as space for more technical creativity.

The new facility now provides a training space for Eanes swimming and diving athletes and allows the district to host various levels of aquatic competition. The aquatics center features a 36-meter competition pool with a moveable bulkhead to accommodate water polo matches and training, swim training and meets, and diving.

The moveable bulkhead allows for more flexible programming and multiple user groups to utilize the space simultaneously. The pool is constructed with Myrtha stainless steel and PVC construction technology and features a fully integrated electronic timing system. It also features a shallow area on one side of the bulkhead, allowing dedicated space for learn-to-swim, fitness/wellness activities, and additional warm-up space during meets. It will be used by the Westlake High School swimming and diving programs, with a possible middle school expansion swim program, potential water polo, and other district swim activities. Other intended uses will include community pool time, swim lessons and swim club rentals.
