The Porter Family Indoor Performance Facility at University of South Florida (USF) spans an expansive 88,000 square feet and offers an array of amenities. These include a 100-yard turf field, observation deck, reception lobby with a donor wall, outdoor plaza, therapy pools, scoreboards, video work area, official's locker room, and restrooms.
USF has integrated cutting-edge Hydroworx therapy pools as a vital component of its sports medicine program, with a particular focus on the USF football team. These pools present an innovative approach to athletic training and recovery.
Specifically designed for aquatic therapy and rehabilitation, the Hydroworx therapy pools incorporate several advanced features. An adjustable water current system, underwater treadmills, and resistance jets allow for low-impact exercise, strength training, and cardiovascular conditioning. Additionally, the pools are equipped with video monitoring technology and integrated software, enabling trainers to analyze athletes' movement patterns and make necessary adjustments.
Within the USF facility, there are three separate therapy pools. The larger pool, the Hydroworx 750I, spans approximately 93 square feet and accommodates group therapy sessions. Additionally, there are two smaller private pools, each covering around 80 square feet, tailored for individual training.
The USF football team has seamlessly incorporated these therapy pools into their training and recovery routines, reaping numerous benefits. The pools are instrumental in injury prevention and recovery, building strength and endurance, and overall performance improvement. They have proven particularly advantageous for players recovering from knee and ankle injuries, as they enable low-impact exercise and muscle strengthening without imposing excessive stress on joints.
