Sean Gartland grew up in San Diego, CA learning to swim and surf. This love for water motivated him to begin swimming competitively and later go on to swim for Purdue University under head coach Dan Ross. While at Purdue, Sean studied civil engineering with an emphasis on structural engineering. After graduating in 2019, Sean obtained his EIT license and is currently working towards his professional engineering (PE) license.

Before joining Counsilman-Hunsaker, Sean worked as a junior civil engineer/EIT at Michael Baker International as a consultant to the US government working closely with NAVFAC and USACE. After cutting his teeth in the engineering industry, Sean decided he wanted to combine his passions for aquatics and engineering and join some of his former Purdue teammates at Counsilman-Hunsaker.

As a project engineer, Sean Gartland works closely with the project management team to develop project deliverables through completion of engineering tasks and hydraulic design, as well as facility audits, submittal reviews, and construction site observations. In his free time, Sean still surfs, swims, and enjoys practicing his photography hobby of photographing and filming the ocean, surfers, and swimmers.
